General Info
Settled in 1640, Greenwich has been welcoming visitors since, making them wish they were residents and many becoming permanent members of the community. Things may have changed over the last 300+ years, but one thing’s has remained constant. Greenwich is a welcoming city whether you’re visiting for a day, a weekend or are looking around for a permanent home.
Come visit and enjoy our beaches that shine, soak up some sun and wiggle your toes in the sand, or if you’d rather, visit the park and enjoy the pool! We’ve got something for everyone at Greenwich Point from jogging to cycling, fishing to sail boarding everything you need to enjoy a nice day in the sun. If none of that is what you’re looking for, bring a book, find a bench and have a seat.
Located in Fairfield County, Greenwich has grown while maintaining its small time charm. Home to a lot of financial service companies, it’s the southernmost and westernmost municipality in Connecticut and less than an hour by express train to Manhattan. An easy commute to one of the best big cities in the world makes Greenwich one of the best places to live and not jut because people who live there say so. CNN/Money and Money magazine ranked Greenwich 12th on its list of the 100 Best Places to live in the United State. Money magazine also ranked Greenwich as number one in its “Biggest Earner” category.
Enjoy seasonal weather, excellent business opportunities and great recreation in Greenwich. It offers something for everyone, so when you plan your visit, bring extra clothes. Once you’ve arrived, you’ll want to stay longer than you planned!

History
Settled in 1640, one of the founders was Elizabeth Fones Winthrop, daughter in law of the founder and Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. During the American Revolution, General Israel Putnam made daring escape after being captured, to warn Stamford of the impending British invasion. Greenwich grew into the picturesque city it is today through the hard work of the residents and the city government.
